Welcome! Here you can find more about your College Adviser!
Hi! I am Ms. Quinn and I am your Hazel Park College Adviser for the 2020-2021 school year!
I am from Warren, MI right down the street from Hazel Park High School! For high school, I went to the Utica Academy for International Studies in Sterling Heights where I was actually one of the only low-income, first-generation students at my school. Although there was a HUGE college-going culture and TONS of college resources at my school, I really struggled with the college application process because I felt alone and I didn't know how I was going to afford college.
When I was applying to college, I wanted to go out-of-state but I didn't know about all of my financial options and didn't think that I could afford it. In all honesty, I initially chose MSU because it was more affordable and I loved the campus... that was all. However, when I did finally start college, I constantly found myself struggling financially. I worked 3 jobs and was constantly crying in the financial aid office because no one had told me about how the financial process worked. I did finally end up graduating from Michigan State University in May 2020 with Bachelor of Science degrees in both Anthropology and Environmental Studies & Sustainability with a minor in Museum Studies. I ended up finding my place in college by becoming very involved with the clubs on campus, but it took me a long time to get there.
My college experience was very stressful and hard because I didn't have know about my post-secondary options when I was in high school. BUT these experiences made me really passionate about helping other students like me. When looking for jobs that would help me serve my passion after graduation, I found MSUCAC and never looked back! It brought me back home and to Hazel Park High School and I am so excited to be a part of this community. I know this year is going to be different and we will be dealing with new things, but I will always be here to help you get through it! Go Vikings!
