Tips from Ms. Quinn on Preparing for College:
Go to class!
This might seem silly, but life can get crazy, remember going to class is the best way to ensure that you are getting all the information and studying all the content to be successful in your classes!
Get involved with clubs and activities!
Getting involved with activities not only will make your overall experience fun, but you will make new friends and connections that will be important for life after college! New opportunities can open up for you when you get involved and it will make your college experience one to remember!
Go to office hours and connect with professors!
These connections will not only help you be successful in your class, but research and job opportunities can open up when you make the connection with a professor. Many professors have research that they are doing, if you are interested in assisting this looks awesome on resumes, and sometimes they pay you to help!
Branch out with people!
Making new friends can be scary and intimidating, but I promise that some of the people that you meet will be there for you during some of the craziest moments of your life. It is fun to meet people that come from different backgrounds and places then you. Everyone is in the same boat as a college freshman, you're starting fresh, embrace all the news people! Check out my first week in college with the girls on my floor, I'm still best friends with them today!
Be your own advocate!
This is something I learned early in college, and it was the best piece of advice I ever got! If something does not make sense in your class, or you are having an issue with your roommate, there are many people on a college campus that want to help you, you just need to ask! Getting a tutor for a chemistry class is NEVER a bad thing, and your RA(residential assistant) is their for you in your corner, just ask for help!
As always, I will be here for you after graduation, reach out if you are ever worried, or have questions! (Plus I would love updates on you all!!)
